FS: 1998 GTI 2.0 5-speed Porcelain Blue - Vacaville

Postby jreed1337 » Tue Jan 01, 2019 9:03 am

I have begrudgingly decided to sell my GTI. It is a 4 owner car that has lived its entire life in California. It is rust free. I have owned the car for just about 3 years now. I have put 15,000 miles on the car in the three years. This is car I bought from Leo.

The car has been adult owned in my time with it. I have never taken it over 85, at that speed was only once. The car never goes over 4500 RPM. It is garaged full time unless it is on the road. It is very well cared for and treated. I drive it to work which is about a 70 miles drive once a week and take it out on the weekends for errands. Runs and drives great.

Here are the details on the car.

-1998 VW GTi 2.0 ABA
-5 speed
-194,560 miles
-Porcelain Blue
-Car passed smog in May with flying colors. I will smog for the new owner.
-Comes with original owners manuals and booklet holder

-Full one of a kind Recaro Expert L interior. Seat bolsters are Recaro Monza Fabric, centers are Recaro Confetti (rear seats fully made to match)
-OEM Euro Headlight Switch
-OEM Deluxe Audio head unit (aux input)
-H&R street coilovers (unknown mileage, at least 15,000)

Every electrical and mechanical function and system works on the car as they should. The only exception is the rear hatch release. The mount is broken in the plate tub so the release only works with the banjo key FOB or the button in the center console. It does not work by physically pushing the lock cylinder in the hatch.
-AC works great
-Heat works great
-Sunroof, rear defroster, rear wiper, front wipers
-Power locks
-All exterior and interior lights
-All dash functions and gauges
-Literally everything works as it should

The interior is a 10/10. The seats are in perfect condition. The headliner is unstained and not sagging. Door cards are clean, carpet is tear free and clean. Dash is crack and scratch free. There is zero issues whatsoever on the interior. Blue stitched steering wheel and shift boot. Typical wear on the upper half of the shift knob.

Mechanically the car is sound. Starts right up every time and runs and drives great. There are no mechanical issues on the car.

Aside from the above four modifications the car is completely stock and unmolested. Maintenance on the car during my three year ownership is as follows.

Owner replaced timing belt prior to sale at 180,000 miles.

187,673 miles:
Replaced front brake pads and rotors with Powerstop Z23 Kit
Polished and greased guide pins on both calipers

Oil changed every 3-4k miles with Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30 and a Mann oil filter.

For some reason I didn't document when I installed the new battery, but it is roughly 12 months old.

Cons:
-The paint is 20 years old. The front bumper has 20 years of road usage showing. There are various chips and scratches throughout the body. It is in overall very good shape for 20 years, but at the same time it is 20 year old original paint. No dents.

-The coolant temp sensor is failing. The temp gauge will occasionally bounce around from 1/2 to 3/4 temp on the gauge. I will be working on replacing it in the coming days.

-The front right upper strut bearing is starting to make noise in the cold weather. It needs replacement and I will work on getting that accomplished.

I will update the listing as I remember things, but this is a pretty complete description of the car.

Price on the car is $4,600. Feel free to ask questions or request other pictures.

Thank you.
