Mk6 GTI Loud ticking?

Postby fastgti02 » Tue Oct 09, 2018 7:50 pm

Now I know my GTI is suppose to tick a little but the other day turned it over and it was REALLY loud but sort of goes away after the car warms up. Any ideas?

Sounds like a lifter tick.

I would assume the oil level's been checked... Not sure whether a fuel pump lifter or pump on it's way out would make it's presence know that way or not...

What about timing chain guides? I’m at about 134k.

Checked on identifix nothing found there either sounds like lifter issue but could be the injectors as it is a direct injection motor they can be loud without the cover on the engine

Used vcds and measure the cam position specified vs actual to see if the tensioner is failing, I think you get like .5 degree max variation.
